Abstract
Between the Seventies and the Forties the evolution from coitiones through factiones to partes shaped the political parties in ancient Rome, but immediately after the triad 'magistrates / people = comitia / senate' was substituted by the pair 'military leader / army': so the parties became useless and disappeared.
