Abstract
According to many historical interpretations, Italian Catholics were adverse to the Risorgimento. Not to mention the reasons of contrast it must be acknowledged that many Catholics were favorable to unification because the Italian national identity is deeply influenced by Christian tradition and the presence of the Catholic Church in Italy.
