Abstract
Duns Scotus processes a refined metaphysics setthing its roots in revelation: metaphysics is the science of being as we know pro statu isto, a metaphysics that without revelation would have ignored the situation in which it finds itself. Our metaphysics, as pro statu isto we can conceive, is the work of an intellect submitted to concrete limitations, so different from original nature. The ens univocum Scotus refers to makes total dependence on what comes from being to the one who establishes it, that means to the radical transcendence of God. This transcendence might not want what he wants when he wants it. The univocity of being creates space to set and justify the absolute omnipotence of God, since it manages to dissolve the difficulty between on one hand Greek necessitarism and on the other hand contingentism proposed by monotheism
