Abstract
Improving media content and creating new educational platforms is a crucial challenge both to the Arab world and to Europe and the West at large. In the light of the urgent need to enhance civilisations’ dialogue and inter-cultural dialogue, within this perspective, the Gulf, as ‘the new centre’ in the Arab ‘mediascape’, needs a shift from a transnational to a transcultural dimension. All that can have a significant impact on the image of the Arab woman within society and between societies. The Gulf ‘centrality’ is reconfirmed by the ‘Internet revolution’, although new variables emerge here, resulting in more direct and unprecedented involvement of national women in the communication sector. The description of increasingly networked societies is linked to the relevance of a transcultural media system.
