Abstract

In Renaissance Florence, before the Principality, the theater appears as a dense interweaving of experimentations, and emerges as a central moment in civic life. Through the analysis of the productive system of the Florentine spectacle, of the recitative techniques, of the theoretical reflections, of the relationships between intellectuals and entertainment specialists, the book traces the process of formation of vernacular comedy since the time of Lorenzo the Magnificent and Poliziano to Machiavelli's ones. This is a particularly original and pioneering work in relation to both the birth of the comedy and the relationship between orality and writing in the transmission of literary and dramaturgical texts, and to the methodological approach of the research.
