Abstract
The introduction of Christianity in the Roman world leads to a new idea of justice in which the authority of the emperor and of the state institutions are no longer adequate and the predominance of a higher law is needed. The archaic legal conventions are revised according to the Christian principle of mercy and love for our fellow human beings
