Abstract
This paper considers the potential for the systematic introduction of non-standard varieties of German within the context of teaching German as a foreign language. A critical analysis of the existing situation, which focuses on the exclusive use of a single standard variety corresponding to that spoken in Germany, has led to the presentation of alternative teaching perspectives. These aim to promote the learning and teaching of non-standard varieties, such as Swiss and Austrian German, using authentic material and artificial intelligence in the sense of a pluricentric receptive approach.
