Freedom: an open debate

Risultato della ricerca: Contributo in libroChapter

Freedom is crucial for social sciences: relationships, patterns and forms of social life originate from and develop around the idea of freedom. In this frame, Simmel offers a valuable contribution. The text focuses on some crucial points in Simmel’s analysis: freedom is an anthropological issue and a moral issue, as it is related to human actions and life. These points can be rediscovered in the subsequent reflections by various authors. Among them, Berlin and Bauman. Berlin insisted precisely on the anthropological dimension as well as Simmel. Bauman takes up the Simmelian centrality of responsibility at the basis of freedom.
