Abstract
This book discusses the origins and the consequences of the increasing presence of Sovereign Wealth Funds (SWFs) in the international arena. The book is composed of 8 chapters and a long introduction. The introduction analyzes the links between the increasing role of emerging market economies, global imbalances and SWFs. Chapter 1 discusses the recent accumulation of foreign exchange reserves by emerging markets. Chapter 2 presents the history of SWFs. Chapters 3, 4 and 5 are devoted to the analysis of the political implications of the increasing presence of SWFs. Chapter 6 describes the European position with respect to SWFs. Chapter 7 is focused on the peculiar experience of Temasek. Chapter 8 analyzes the case of CIC, China Investment Corporation.
