Abstract
What is a sign? What is language? What does “to communicate” mean? What is meaning? Since Antiquity philosophers has paid attention to language because it has been considered a privileged access to the conceptual world. Understanding how and why we speak can help us to comprehend how we think. Words and speeches are the fundamental tools by means of which we codify our thoughts. To understand how we think help us to comprehend the world or, at least, the way we conceive it. This volume illustrates the concepts and the problems about which philosophers of language discuss and shows different solutions. Particular attention is paid to linguistic tools: nominal phrases, verbal phrases and their composition in sentences. Furthermore, conversational rules and implicit meanings are analyzed.
