Abstract

The history of women and the history of cinema are strictly linked. During the past Century, moviegoing represented a chance for a lot of women to access to public sphere. The essay analyses the history of Italian women at the movie, demonstrating the deep ambivalence of the social, cultural and political position of the woman as film spectator.
