Eventi miracolosi come strumenti di legittimazione o deligittimazione del potere nei primi Visconti di Milano

The contribution analyses three moments in which miracles occurred in important circumstances and objects linked to the history of the visconti family up to 1350: the discovery of the relics at Monza in 1300; the battle of Parabiago; the sarcophagus of Archbishop ottone. these were miracles contra notam naturam, which created a link between an innovative Signoria and the rich political and religious tradition that had preceded it. they were also aimed at promoting, restoring and safeguarding, or delegitimising a power still under construction and in search of a precarious balance.
