Abstract
The teaching profession, as is well known, is quite complex as it involves not only technical skills but also emotional and relational ones. That is, the ability to care for children in the broadest sense of the term, which overlaps with having their existence and the development of their personality at heart in the most integral way possible. This requires, in the everyday dynamics of the educational relationship, to implement attitudes of nurturing, protection, and tenderness which, however, are not separate from the normative aspects necessary for growth: those connected not only to rules and educational firmness but also to letting go. Beyond the rhetoric of good feelings, therefore, the humanity of the teacher is expressed in an educational style capable of reconciling presence and absence, and in a way of being from which a genuine interest in the humanity of the other emerges: in the development of what is yet-to-be, in profound respect for their uniqueness.
