Abstract

Ecological Risk Assessment (ERA) can be achieved by applying simple procedure or calculations in order to provide innovation characterization tools and strategies. In this context, the use of specific softwares results in a number of advantages: a high number of chemical measurements, the comparison of data with ecotoxicological and toxicological benchmarks, the geo-reference of both input and output, the interpolation of results by kriging approaches kriging. One example is SADA software (Spatial Analysis and Decision Assistance) which was adopted from USEPA’s triad approach. On the other hand, risk assessment of polluted environments is also done experimentally by using batteries of bioassys which have become useful tools for evaluating the damage of contaminants on organisms. For refined evaluation of environmental risk, the use of a set of tests on species at different levels of biological organization and of biological approaches to complement physico-chemical analyses has been recommended.\r\nIn this study, two approaches were applied; SADA as a software for evaluating the ERA and ecotoxicity methods to screen the biological hazard of surface and ground waters at Jaworzno site. The results from both the methods were compared.
