Employment needs of firms and planning of flows (The Eighth Italian Report on Migrations)

Within the yearly Italian Report on Migrations (2002’s edition) realised by the ISMU Foundation – the main Italian scientific institution on migrations and interethnic cohabitation – this chapter focuses the attention on the question of programming the flow of immigration for work motives. After providing a picture of the international trends and perspectives, it describes the needs of the Italian firms, thanks to the results of the Unioncamere-Excelsior monitoring system. Finally, it develops some concluding remarks and suggestions on labour migrations management, stressing the need to recognize the importance of the qualitative dimension of new entries, not only of the quantitative one.
