Abstract
This essay focuses the attention on migrants' children educational and working perspectives. After describing the process of social and institutional construction of the "second generations", it comments some research results concerning migrants' children educational performances and the problems they meet in acceding to the labour market. In the final part of the chapter, some considerations about the Italian experience are developed, highlighting the scarce level of universalism and meritocracy that characterizes the Italian labour market.
