Abstract
The chapter published in the present book, was originally presented as a paper at the Fourth Annual Conference of the EAEPE (European Association for Evolutionary of Political Economy) held in Paris in November 1992. It discusses the relations between economic theory and the analysis of economic institutions. The paper led to a lively exchange of views, which are also published at the end of the chapter. Main article also reprinted in: Competing Economic Theories – Essays in memory of Giovanni Caravale, London and New York: Routledge,2002, pp.331-339.
