Abstract
The ancient "Eastern route" has left an indelible mark on the Ethiopian landscape, traversed by slaves, merchants, missionaries, and explorers. Today, this route is one of the world's major migration pathways, with a continuous flow of individuals seeking new opportunities beyond national borders. Obock, on the northern coast of Djibouti, is a crucial point in this journey, along with other vital nodes like Godoroa and Fagal in Djibouti and the city of Bosaso in Somalia. The route is primarily traveled by Ethiopians, Somalis, and Yemenis, including economic migrants, refugees, and victims of human trafficking. Despite economic and security challenges, the route represents a perilous and costly path to new opportunities but also a context where serious human rights violations occur. The underlying political and economic complexity makes addressing this situation difficult.
