Abstract
The goal of this paper is to suggest a very simple idea: at a time when hegemonic literature in Central America seemed to have abandoned artistic naturalism and the denunciation of the conditions of oppression of the poor, cinematographic art picks up that flag and leads it to its maximum potential, with surprising results in terms of art and audience success. The analyses of Distancia (2010) by the director Sergio Ramírez and Ixcanul (2015) by Jaime Bustamante support the idea that the palm of narrativity seems to pass from the hands of the literati to the hands of the filmmakers, because the latter have had the courage to try to restore our awareness of inequality, oppression and injustice.
