Abstract
Although they have very different histories, both the UAE and Italy have developed strategies to accommodate internal and external diversity. These strategies have also allowed the two countries, at different epochs, to project
themselves internationally. In fact, cultural policies can play a major role in combating extremism and that, while they may appear more evanescent than military and security responses, they have more long-lasting effects.
