Abstract
According to the Syrian thinker al-Kawākibī (1855-1902), Islam was born democratic, but was turned into a tool for absolutism. This drift will continue until Judgement Day, unless Muslims adopt a political style based on consultation. A manifesto of Arabic liberalism in the Nahda era.
