This paper analyzes an experience that uses the sport and physical activity as a tool for inclusion and community development. The project is carried out in the neighborhood of Manenberg in Cape Town (South Africa) and it was born from the collaboration between the Foundation Champions for Children, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore of Milan and Universitat Ramon Llull of Barcelona. The project consists in the construction and manage of a Playground, a socio-field sports, which has become a community gathering point. A multipurpose facility that, through sports activities, become a space to develop social networking community.
In the first part of the communication will provide data that can shape the social demographic, cultural and economic situation of Manenberg district, establishing most relevant social issues. The second part shows the theoretical and methodological frame of the project. Thirdly, a protocol of co-action with local partners. And finally, it reflects on strengths and limits of this project.
