Abstract
Discard is part of a product to be discarded and, at the same time, an expression of a marginalized humanity. Discard urges one to stand near the end to rediscover a sense of cyclicality and transformation, moving from a linear and functionalist view to a circular and systemic one. It represents a glimpse to see habits and lifestyles in a different perspective and make concrete choices, to look "from below" at social dynamics and rethink educational planning.
Bringing different disciplinary languages into dialogue and drawing on the thought and experience of great pedagogues of our time - Illich, Don Milani, Freire, Bertolini - the text explores the "culture of waste" and outlines the perspective of recovery: the need emerges to revise the relationship between subject and environment, to grasp the possibilities inherent in divergence, openness and the search for essentiality, to promote forms of recovery that put equity, the exercise of the word and the common good at the center.
The text also presents some case histories: ReMida, Quid Project, Prison Economy, MetodoCaviardage, and Made in Carcere are emblematic examples of sustainability in educational and business contexts, where what seems useless and seemingly irretrievable is valued. To discard means to eliminate, but also to open. To throw away, to reject but also to unwrap. Having the opportunity to go to the heart, to the essential. Education can only start from there: from the discard to recover, from the end to begin again.
