Dal laboratorio di Franca Brambilla Ageno. Annotazioni per il metodo e una corrispondenza con Sebastiano Timpanaro

This article considers a few Franca Brambilla Ageno’s annotated books now in the Library of the Università Cattolica in Brescia in order to delineate some aspects of her method in textual criticism and in the analysis of ancient Italian language. Her notes to Giovanni Boccaccio’s ‘Decameron’, Franco Sacchetti’s ‘Trecentonovelle’, Antonio da Ferrara’s ‘Rime’ are taken into account, and a planned but never achieved second edition of Iacopone da Todi’s ‘Laude’ is described. Some manuscript notes also demonstrate that she was preparing a third edition of her handbook to textual criticism, which was never printed; and an exchange of letters in 1975 between her and Sebastiano Timpanaro concerning philological matters is published in the Appendix.
