title = "Cultural influences on the adoption of web 2.0 services",
abstract = "The chapter describes differences in the adoption of web 2.0 services in european countries. While the effect of cultural differences between countries on the adoption of internet has been under-researched in general, in the chapter the authors argue that these might be even more significant for web 2.0 services. This is based upon a secondary analysis of data concerning the various cultural influences and social behaviour that can affect adoption. The main difference between countries is in terms of online practices relating to what we might call {"}cultural production{"} (e.g. sharing material or producing user generated content) and online social networking. For example cultural production through web 2.0 services is more diffused in countries where, overall, people are engaged in fewer social activities offline.",
