title = "Complexity and Efficiency: Milan in the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries, in Italian Victualling Systems in the Early Modern Age, 16th to 18th Century",
abstract = "[Autom. eng. transl.] The article illustrates the complexity and variety of supply systems in Milan in modern Italy. For a long time, the historiography of urban supply systems in the late Middle Ages and the early modern period was characterized by a conceptual opposition between the administration of provisioning and the market. In this article, on the contrary, the term 'ration system' is used according to its historical meaning, designating an organized set of public and private channels for the procurement and distribution of essential goods for daily life.",
