Abstract
“The historical regime of competition is dead and will never return” (Sella 1916: 568-569). Sella wrote this in a period when in economic writings a statement of this kind certainly sounded like heresy, contradicted by a theory which had been endorsed by many generations of economists .
The issue of dynamics was in his time and in the years immediately afterwards, the most important issue of economic science and Sella faced it with considerable independence of thought.
In a certain sense his attempt is also a defeat, at least if we consider the fact that the results of his research remained and still remain unknown, almost like “hieroglyphics which are very difficult to interpret” (Fasiani). However, that was above all a defeat of the method, perhaps also of the system of exposition, maybe not a defeat of his thought
