Abstract

The U.S. culture, which has most embraced the ideas of leadership and team spirit, shows that to achieve this, one must blend oratory skills with narrative ability. How can an engaging speech be built by following the rules of storytelling? The author explains this, first, through the lens of Hollywood cinema, which offers countless examples of stirring speeches delivered by iconic characters. Then, by drawing on the experience of U.S. presidential speechwriters, who assert that when writing a speech, “the story” comes above all else. Finally, by looking at the art of motivation as practiced by winning coaches, both in real life and in sports films.
