Abstract
The aim of this study is to analyze the effect of contact and cognitive and emotional variables on the prejudice of Italian employers and Ukrainian women who work in families as maids, baby-sitters or carers for the elderly. 405 Italian employers took part in the study. Results confirms that the effect of contact on prejudice is mediated by the presence of a close relation between the employer and the Ukrainian trough self-disclosure. Self-disclosure leads to an improvement of positive intergroup emotions (trust and empathy), and to a decrease of negative intergroup emotion (anxiety) and this leads in turn to a reduction of prejudice. The effect of anxiety on prejudice is moderated by family satisfaction . This results state the importance of interpersonal and family relations on prejudice reduction.
