Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, l’Euro e l’Europa

This essay examines the long journey of the Euro and the contribution that Ciampi makes to its achievement and to the subsequent accreditation of the process, in the many roles he covers first in the Bank of Italy, then in the Government and finally to the Presidency of the Republic. The reconstruction of his path makes it clear how the difficult and not obvious goal of joining the Euro was made possible by an essential collaboration and unity of perspectives between the technicians and politicians who contributed to its achievement. Ciampi's peculiarity was that of having at the same time a technical vision and a political vision supported by a strong pro-European motivation. His contribution has allowed a decisive recovery of the country's international credibility, which was completely necessary in order to dialogue with European partners.
