Abstract
This paper aims at presenting some results of an investigation conducted on a sample of mechanical medium sized Italian companies with the objective of studying their purchasing behaviour and relationships with suppliers. The paper stresses that new market trends force mechanical medium sized companies to focus on a re-organization of purchasing processes and in general on a re-configuration of their supply chain adopting innovative policies and strategies in order to develop a relevant position in the supply chain
