Abstract
This paper offers an interpretation of XIII cap. of Promessi Sposi and examines, from a narrative point of view, its function in total novel structure. The XIII cap. is analized in a wide perspective, that include Manzoni’s meta-narrative essays, historiographic sources and some literary models. Furthermore, comparing composing periods, from Fermo e Lucia to its final editing, it’s possible to meditate on real purpose about representation on uproar of people close to vicario di provvisione house; this event, finally, can lead to a new consideration about Christian character of the novel and its polyphonic nature.
