Abstract
The manuscript Reginense lat. 1973 in the Vatican Apostolic Library is a remarkable miscellany of Latin and vernacular texts, both prose and poetry; it is often used by philologists for critical editions of fourteenth and fifteenth century poetry, even though its origins are uncertain. This essay attempts to locate the manuscript in the area around Ferrara and in the years of Duke Borso d’Este (1452-1471). It is hypothesized that its compiler, whose name was Simone, was a clergyman. The essay concludes with an edition of a short latin poem by the Ferrarese doctor Ludovico Carri, and a sonnet by the Mantuan ambassador (of Pisan origin) Zaccaria Saggi, also included in the Vatican codex.
