Abstract
The article investigates the causes of the cultural marginalization of elderly people in modern society by reconstructing the anthropological opposition between the modern individual and the elderly person. The first is built around an idea of freedom as absolute autonomy, health as technological work on the limit, and rejection of the negative as a dimension of existence; the second as proximity and exposure to the unavailable dimension of the person. The recovery of the figure of the elderly person is envisaged within the pedagogical anthropology of society, and first and foremost, within the emerging community welfare processes, operating on the service and the educational models necessary to support it.
