Abstract
The essay examines some of the intertextualities of the
Gerusalemme liberata, with a specific attention to
biblical, patristic and liturgical sources. Starting from
this methodological choice, the essay examines the episodes
of Olindo and Sofronia and the vicissitudes of
the female character of Erminia. The essay will also
make a careful reading of the verses that introduce the
narration of Clorinda’s death, recognizing once more,
through the intertextual study, the deepness of Tasso’s
poetry cultural references. Also a passage from the
Gerusalemme conquistata will be analysed, to underline
the great knowledge of patristic works acquired
by Torquato Tasso after the writing of the Liberata.
