Abstract
A synthetic outline of the devotional esteem that Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli (Pope John XXIII) paid to the figure of St. Charles Borromeo from the years of his childhood education, enriched over time with the study of the religious work and the trace left by the holy archbishop of Milan in the life of the Church in the modern and contemporary age, which led to recognising in him a model of a pastor adaptable to the new historical circumstances of 20th century secularisation
