Abstract
The essays in this book are the result of the homonyms conference held during the Expo Milano 2015. They highlight how, in the human experience, food has always been more than a mere nourishment for bodily needs. It acquired significant cultural and social meanings, allowing religions to build symbolism, covenants and rituals that set the basis of the community and that give a sense to the hard journey of life.
Exploring the religions' heritage of traditions tied to food not only opens the dialogue on the meaning of new mundane rituals, taboos and on the social meaning of eating disorders, but also on the renewed significance of the meal, hospitality and justice.
