Abstract
This study analyses greenwashing practices in the banking industry using the Preferred Reporting
Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) and bibliometric methods. This study
aims to identify the key concerns associated with greenwashing in the banking sector and understand
the extent to which these concerns have been addressed in academic research over the
past decade. This analysis was conducted using the Web of Science and Scopus databases,
resulting in 19 articles identified following the PRISMA protocol. The key findings indicate that
the concept of greenwashing has gained significant attention, with an increasing number of
studies published in recent years. The results of the PRISMA analysis revealed that banks have
been accused of greenwashing by overemphasising sustainable policies and their commitment to
environmental objectives without implementation. This study provides valuable insights into the
nature of greenwashing in the banking industry and offers recommendations for future research.
