Abstract
This study examines the scattered information relating to the single attested staging of Giraldi Cinthio’s Arrenopia between February and March 1563. Three types of sources are brought back to unity: Giraldian works (in particular letters, Ecatommiti, tragedies), archival documents preserved in Ferrara, Modena and Turin, researches by scholars between
the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries. Particular attention is paid to the première’s location, the courtyard of Giraldi’s house in Ferrara, near to Palazzo del Paradiso and reachable through a suspended overpass. The location of his house is studied by crossing archival sources and cartographic evidence, reproduced in the appendix. In the same light, some
aspects of Giraldi’s biography are incidentally reconsidered.
