Abstract
The article deals with Joyce's legacy in the twentieth century's Irish fiction. The focus is on experimental devices and the authors chosen as main examples are Elizabeth Bowen, John Banville and Patrick McCabe. They cover the whole century and the analysis of their works help trace a line which, drawing from the irish Gothic tradition, has led to the development of the contemporary genre of crime fiction.
