Abstract
In a historical and philological perspective, this essay illustrates the semantic development of the meaning of the corradical terms Ἀφορίζω, ἀφόρισμα, ἀφορισμός through the various cultural eras. Therefore, it highlights the uses, the various recontextualizations and eventual re-semantizations that they underwent starting from the Classics up to assuming theological value in the biblical world. In particular, the occurrences of these three terms are analyzed in Greek literature, in papyri and inscriptions, in LXX, in Jewish literature of the Greek language, in the New Testament and in ancient Christian literature
