Abstract
In alphabetic languages, palindromes are formed by rearranging letters or whole words and demonstrate axial or linear symmetry. The phonotactics of Modern Standard Mandarin, with its high percentage of missing syllables, does not allow free reverse phoneme order, resyllabification, and the usage of a consonant alone.
