Abstract
Zenker's diverticulum arises from the posterior wall of the hypopharynx caused by herniation of the mucosa and submucosa. Main symptoms comprise oropharyngeal dysphagia and regurgitation. The mainstay of treatment is cricopharyngeal myotomy. The surgical and the rigid endoscopic stapling approaches are standard treatments. Flexible endoscopic diverticulotomy is a less invasive approach with a low incidence of complications. Technical aspects and clinical results are schematically analyzed according to data from recent retrospective studies.
