Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] After defining the Europe of Isocrates, a Hellenistic-centric Europe in which the polis constitutes the main political-social structure, the contribution considers the proposals formulated by the rhetorician for the stabilization of those xenoi (stateless persons, refugees, mercenaries) who, given the their number and the instability of their condition constituted a serious social problem. However, Isocrates does not indicate satisfactory solutions in identifying problems: the colonization and the permanent settlement in extra-Hellenic territories, which Isocrates tried to accredit as traditional choices recalling the ancient ionic colonization, were not pleasing to the masses of planomenos whom They addressed.
