Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Between Elio Vittorini and the city of Milan there is a very close bond, born at the end of the 1930s and then strengthened after the Second World War, when the Sicilian writer began a long collaboration with the cultural industry and focused on an original idea of literature in dialogue with the codes of cinema, photography, the arts, sociology, philosophy, politics. On the fiftieth anniversary of death, the Department of Literary, Philological and Linguistic Studies of the University of Milan and the Research Center "Literature and Culture of United Italy" of the Catholic University, with the sponsorship of the Italian MOD-Society for the study of literary modernity, organized the conference Vittorini in the polytechnic city, which took place in Milan on 19 and 20 February 2016. The crucial role of the Lombard metropolis in the literary, cultural and militant activity of Vittorini emerged, and in the formulation of a new intellectual model (with the specific characteristics of the literate publisher) able to measure itself against the challenges of modernity.
