[Autom. eng. transl.] The text addresses the issue of euthanasia according to three points. 1. In the first, introductory, a first general anthropological meaning of the question of death is briefly outlined and the form with which it is presented in the contemporary world. We also try to identify the area in which the answer can be inscribed, distinguishing between legality and morality on the one hand, and between personal ethics and political ethics on the other. 2. The second deals with the question of the legitimacy or illegitimacy of euthanasia at a level that I define as transcendent-transcendent, in a horizon of faith, where the relationship with oneself and with others is brought to light and within the relationship with God. The way in which this response is presented and understood, regardless of adherence to its premises of faith, helps to outline the cultural horizon in which the political debate in lay terms is situated and which will be addressed in the third point. 3. Here the same question is treated starting from a transcendent-immanent level, evaluating the social eligibility of euthanasia regardless of the relationship with God (and therefore outside a horizon of faith). To do this it is necessary: a) to understand the passage from euthanasia of totalitarianism to liberal euthanasia; b) briefly outline some elements that characterize the cultural context of the latter; c) to understand the common elements between the two types of euthanasia, although apparently opposed; d) assess the compatibility or incompatibility of voluntary euthanasia with the assumptions of a democratic society.
