Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The essay examines two theses: according to the first the morally good man generally suffers, sometimes up to endure persecutions, while the evil one prospers and achieves success in the world; for the latter, amplified above all by Nietzsche, virtue not only does not make people happy, but is itself the cause of unhappiness. The antinomy between virtue and happiness explodes nowadays in an emotional climate, in which the aim is always to be intensely excited and the moral imperative is: "free your emotions". It is therefore a question of detecting the link between love-happiness / contentment, that between virtue and love, and therefore that between virtue and happiness / contentment: the fully virtuous man lives for love and therefore can experience moments of happiness and live with a state of lasting soul of contentment. On the other hand, those who are invaded by intense emotions and look for them constantly, end up not immediately but in the long run, to become submissive, end up mutilating their freedom and seriously impoverishing their ability to experience feelings.
