Abstract

This volume addresses the issue of violence against women and girls, which has been at the centre of public debate for years, from a variety of perspectives, including some that are new or rarely discussed. Alongside the most well-known forms of victimisation, such as domestic violence, it contains in-depth analyses of lesser-known issues, such as obstetric violence and online violence. There are also specific reflections on women prisoners and migrant women, who experience less visible and recognised forms of violence. The impact of multiculturalism and interculturality on violence against women and girls is also investigated. Alongside phenomenological analysis, a wide range of prevention and protection tools are examined (from protection orders to inter-agency information and communication exchange duties). Taking an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach, the work considers contributions from criminal, civil, procedural, penitentiary and migration law in the context of European and supranational law, as well as contributions from victimology, criminology and social work. The study is enriched by the experiences and insights of individuals working in the field, including best practices and prevention policies implemented by the Lombardy Regional Council, which co-financed the project that led to this publication.
