Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] English: Traveling along the sixtieth parallel north means embarking on a journey destined to bring us back to the starting point: a journey home driven by the insinuating breeze of nostalgia. But what happens if there is no home? Malachy Tallack, an English journalist and singer-songwriter, born in 1980 – a guest from 1 to 3 March at the I Boreali festival promoted by the publishing house Iperborea at the Teatro Parenti in Milan – recounts in The Great North. Journey around the world along the sixtieth parallel (translated by Stefania De Franco, Iperborea 2024, €18.50) his nostalgia for the Shetland Islands, the family’s chosen home since the writer was ten years old, a place loved-hated, abandoned but continually sought, and never truly felt like “home”. Traveling north, Margaret Atwood recalled, means moving away from the heart of civilization to face the unknown and the other, “it means entering one’s own unconscious”.
