Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The article proposes an analysis of the testimonies on Καύνου κτίσις (The Kaunos Foundation) of Apollonio Rodio: the summaries of two mythical events narrated in the poem are included in the Erotika Pathemata of Nymphaeum (N1: Lyrkos; §11: Biblide and Cauno); both myths have also been treated by the Hellenistic poet Niceneto. A fragment in hexameters hypothetically attributed to Apollonio and preserved in the Etymologicum Magnum is among the dubia of the Καύνου κτίσις. The potential Ptolemaic connections of the myths presented by Apollonius are examined: in the myth of Lyrkos, king of Cauno, the main elements of interest for an Alexandrian poet sponsored by the Ptolemaic ruler are the argivist origin of the hero, the role, in his history, of the Apollonian sanctuary of Didyma near Miletus, and his dynastic relationship with the god Dionysus (through his son Staphilus, king of the city Bubastos caria). In the myth milio / cario of Biblide, also transmitted by the mythographer Conone and Ovid in the Metamorphoses, a potential element of interest for the Tolemeans could be its wandering in the area of Limira, seat, in the III century BC, of an imposing sanctuary for the cult of the Ptolemaic king.
